Seek First the Kingdom: Living in God’s Divine Order

Are You Striving or Seeking?

Have you ever felt like you’re doing all the right things but still not seeing breakthrough? Maybe peace feels distant or provision seems delayed. I’ve been there too. We can fill our schedules and our minds with all the “right things” and still wonder why we’re falling short.

Jesus gives us a key in Matthew 6:33 that unlocks freedom from that endless striving:

“But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

It’s not that God doesn’t want us to have good things — He just wants us to have them in the right order. When our pursuit starts with the King and His Kingdom, everything else falls into place.

What Does “Seek First” Really Mean?

The Greek word for seek is zēteō, meaning to crave, pursue, or worship. This isn’t a casual glance toward God; it’s a wholehearted pursuit of His presence. God is inviting us into a lifestyle of divine focus — a heart posture that says, “God, You’re my first thought, not my last resort. You are at the center of my thoughts and actions."

When Jesus says “seek first the Kingdom” — the Greek word basileia, meaning the rule and reign of God — He’s showing us how to live under Heaven’s authority on earth. When we make His ways our ways, we begin to experience His peace, power, and provision in every area of life.

God-Centeredness Brings Dominion

Nancy Dufresne said, “God-centeredness is the mystery behind our dominion on the earth. ”When our hearts are fixed on Him, fear and worry lose their grip.

Ephesians 2:6 tells us that God has “raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” That means you are far above all opposition. You can’t be afraid of what you’re far above!

When we seek first the Kingdom, we walk with authority, peace, and confidence — no longer striving, but resting in God’s divine order.

The Blessing of God’s Order

Jesus didn’t say, “Seek only the Kingdom,” but “Seek first the Kingdom. ”Yes, we can have careers, families, and dreams — indeed those blessings came from Him, but they can’t compete for first place in our hearts. Anything that tries to share that position will eventually fall short.

When we put God first, our lives come into alignment. There’s no shortage in His Kingdom — just endless supply.

“You shall serve the Lord your God; He shall bless your bread and water, and I will take sickness from your midst.” — Exodus 23:25

When your heart is aligned with His Kingdom, blessing flows naturally. You don’t chase it — it chases you.

Loving God With All

Jesus said in Mark 12:30:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.”

To love God with all your heart means giving Him an unshared seat. To love Him with all your soul means setting your thoughts and emotions on His truth. To love Him with all your mind means renewing your thinking with the Word daily. To love Him with all your strength means your actions reflect obedience and worship. Loving God fully positions you to live a Kingdom-first life — one where peace reigns and purpose thrives.

Personalize the Promise

Let’s personalize Matthew 6:33 today:

“When I seek first the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things, everything I need is being added to me — peace, provision, and purpose. I refuse to worry about tomorrow because I trust the One who holds it.”

Kingdom Declarations

Speak these truths over your life today:

  • I put God first, and His Kingdom governs my priorities.

  • I seek His way of doing and being right.

  • I live above fear, lack, and striving.

  • Everything I need is being added unto me.

  • My heart is set on the King, and my life follows His order.
